From the time I began drinking beer, I came to the realization that I liked drinking good beer. The first beer I tasted was Bud Light, and I am surprised that I continued to drink beer after that. I moved on to better beers such as Guiness and Sam Adams, especially Oktoberfest and Boston Lager, but realized that with the premium tastes comes premium prices. Sure occasionally your local grocery store may have your brand on sale, but more often than not you will pay full price for it.
About 9 or 10 months ago I was alerted to a sale at one of my favorite deal websites, http://www.woot.com, for a make your own beer at home kit and so I was introduced to Mr. Beer. At first I was skeptical, but I actually found a kit on closeout at a local store and decided to give it a try. I was extremely surprised with how easy it was to make my first batch of beer, also with how much I could make for how little I would spend on the refill kits. Also it only took me about 30 minutes to get the whole batch into the fermenter. Of course it would have to stay there for 7-14 days before bottling, then sit in the bottles at least 7 days as well, but I guess that is the price I pay for good cheap beer.
I have just now put my third batch into the fermenter, and will be bottling in my reclaimed bottles from my local recycling center in about 2 weeks. If all goes well I will have my first beer in about 3 weeks, but with a little planning I will never be without beer and never pay high prices for it again.
